Dr. Vassilia Hatzitaki


Vassilia Hatzitaki is a professor of motor control in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece where she teaches biomechanics and motor control. After completing her studies in physical education, she moved to Canada where she continued her graduate work and received her PhD in biomechanics and motor control from McGill University (1995). Her research focuses on the processes by which visual, vestibular, proprioceptive and haptic signals are integrated in the human brain and transformed into meaningful motor output for controlling posture and balance with applications in aging and sports expertise.

Dr. Hatzitaki’s research has received funding from national (Hellenic General Secretary of Research and Technology, Ministry of Education) and international (Initial Training Networks, The PEOPLE Programme, FP7, European Union) agents and resulted in more than 75 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals with more than 1000 citations.
