Dr Afroditi Stathi
Dr Afroditi Stathi is an Associate Professor in the field of active ageing and health research. She leads a portfolio of international, interdisciplinary research funded by the National Institute of Health Research and major research councils in UK. She has an outstanding profile in leading large community-based trials testing the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a range of approaches in preventing the decline in physical function in older people at risk of mobility disability.
In 2018 she served as a member of the Older Adults Expert Working Group and revised the 2011 UK Chief Medical Officers’ physical activity guidelines for older adults. She has been invited to share her research with major national and international organisations including the Royal College of Medicine in UK and the International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity. Dr Stathi is a Fellow of the European College of Sport Sciences and the Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity at the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Birmingham.
